Google did a lot to give the Pixel and Pixel XL a unique appearance, be it in terms of hardware or software, especially when compared to last year’s Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X.
When the two launched, Android 7.1 Nougat was powering them out of the box. This OS is only available to users of Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X as a beta version, but the stable version is yet to be released. Since the beta version is only recommended for the savvy users, there are still many Nexus 6P and 5X users out there still using the stable Android 7.0 Nougat that was pushed to these devices starting August 22.
In order to make the Google Nexus 6P and 5X look ‘older and outdated’, Google added a bunch of features to the Pixel phones – features that are exclusive to the handsets. However, some geeky users have been finding ways to make these features work on the 2015 handsets. The likes of Google Assistant, Google Camera, fingerprint gestures, as well as the search bar have already found their way to the last Nexus phones. Now the latest to make this move is the Pixel home button animation.
Those using the Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X can rejoice in the fact that they can now enjoy the same Home button animation that appears on the Google Pixel and Pixel XL. It’s a quick animation that is also very cute and in fact, setting it up is also simple. There are two options here – either download the package and flash it to your phone through TWRP recovery or just get things done manually.
The developer warns that this package is only meant to work with Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X running on the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat beta and nothing less, not even Android 7.1 Nougat custom ROMs. Also, ensure that you create a backup of your personal data just in case anything goes wrong with the process.
