Android 7.1 Nougat is already available for downloading and installing on Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, however, it seems there are more surprises in the update.
While Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X users have been able to use Android 7.0 Nougat, there are some features that this OS lacks yet the newer Android 7.1 Nougat has them. The few who could not wait for the features to come to the 2015 handsets via an OTA update have already devised means to get their phones using these features. But as it appears, there are more features that may remain exclusive to the Google Pixel and Pixel XL that earlier thought.
Apparently, not just the 24/7 customer support and unlimited cloud storage features will be limited to the Google Pixel and Pixel XL. It appears that the likes of Night Light mode and the fancy fingerprint swipe or fingerprint gestures will not be making it to Google Nexus 6P, Pixel X or Nexus 5X even with the update to Android 7.1 Nougat.
Of course, many people are now familiar with what the Google Pixel and Pixel XL bring to the table in terms of hardware specs. Like the Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, you find the fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone. When you swipe down on the fingerprint sensor from any screen of the Pixel phones, you will be able to see all your notifications. However, your phone’s lock screen must first be unlocked. With this feature, you don’t need to stretch your thumb in order to swipe down the status bar at the top of the screen. This feature will not make it to the Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X.
Another great feature that Android 7.1 Nougat has for the Pixel and Pixel XL is Night Light mode, the same thing that Apple calls Night Shift. While there are lots of apps that already offer this functionality on Android devices, the idea of having it built into the OS is much better than downloading a third-party app. This feature helps with blue light issues that cause sleepless nights, but apparently, it requires special hardware for it to work – hardware that is not found on the Google Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X.
So, there you have it! Even though Android 7.1 Nougat might be coming to your Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X or Pixel C, there is no room for fingerprint gestures and Night Light mode.
