The Bengaluru-based unit of the studio has been given a key responsibility this time around.
In the last several years, one has seen several gaming titles being developed by talent from India or of Indian origin. GTA 6, one of the most awaited games in recent times, too, has gaming professionals from India working on it.
If early reports are anything to go by, GTA 6 will set new trends as far as developing gaming titles are concerned. The development team in India is playing an important role in giving shape to the game. A bunch of developers in India, in fact, are working towards putting together an important in-game location in the game.

Rockstar India, which is headquartered in Bengaluru, the capital city of the Indian state of Karnataka, has been given the responsibility of putting together an entire city called ‘Vice Beach’ in the game. This location will be an integral part of the core map which players will get to explore in the game. It is important to note here that this assignment has not been designed as a supporting task. It, in fact, comprises several important things, including taking the design and construction of an important urban area in the game ahead.
Close to 6,000 developers are working on GTA 6. Out of these, 1,615 happen to be from India. Rockstar India, therefore, has the highest number of developers working on the game from any Rockstar Studio. While the offices of Rockstar in the United Kingdom have more than 2,600 developers, the offices in the United States have close to 1,400 developers.
In the past, Rockstar India has played a pivotal role in the development work for important titles like GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. This time, however, it is playing an even bigger role. The Bengaluru-based team is solely in charge of putting together the Vice Beach. The team has got a good opportunity to display the kind of skills they have in various departments, including open-world design, asset creation and environment art.

Rockstar Games giving such a huge responsibility to Rockstar India serves as a testament to the fact that the studio’s distribution strategies are constantly evolving. In the past, the studio has been heavily dependent on Rockstar North for most of its development processes. That seems to be changing now.
Set up in the year 2016, Rockstar India came into focus after Dhruva Interactive was acquired by Rockstar Games three years later in 2019. In a short span of time, the studio has grown significantly in size and stature. With Rockstar Games becoming more reliant on it, one expects Rockstar India to grow at a rapid pace over the next couple of years.
