Although a little late, HTC One A9 has now joined the likes of HTC 10 and One M9 in receiving the latest Android 7.0 Nougat update for carrier-based variants.
The company had promised that the HTC One A9 will receive the new OS alongside the two flagships from 2016 and 2015 before the end of 2016. However, this proved to be a huge test for the company as not all three units were updated to the new OS before the end of last year, with the unlocked One A9 seeing the update in mid-January. The good side of the story is that the Taiwanese company did not stop its works and as a result, those using the One A9 on Sprint are currently reporting an update to Android 7.0 Nougat is rolling out.
The update, unlike others that have been rolling out to the HTC One M9 and HTC 10, is slightly smaller in size, weighing in at 1.08GB. It carries software version 2.18.651.2 and the latest Android security update from Google. Whether this security patch is indeed the latest for the month of February or not is yet to be determined, but it is likely for the month of January.
In addition to adding Android 7.0 Nougat and the latest Android security patch, this updated software also brings with it a bunch of system enhancements for HTC One A9 users, although there are no specifics for these details so far. Now that Sprint users are currently receiving the latest Android Nougat OS on their One A9 handsets, it should be long before other carriers do the same, although the dates are not known yet.

Given that the HTC One A9 Nougat update is rolling out as an OTA, not all devices will receive it at once. Rather, the process will run gradually, with other handsets probably receiving the notification somewhere towards the end of next week or even the week after. Don’t freak out if this happens to you – it’s not unusual!
