HTC U Play (codenamed HTC Alpine) is one of the smartphones that HTC is rumored to be getting ready for a launch on January 12 at a special company event.
While there is still no confirmation on the exact number and names of devices to be unveiled at the event, the HTC U Play is seen as a contender thanks to the teaser revealed by the company with a “U” in it. The phone has been codenamed HTC Alpine and according to the incoming reports, it has recently gone through Bluetooth certification body SIG.
There is little the SIG certification gives out regarding this rumored HTC U Play handset. In fact, there is nowhere the phone is mentioned, not even the name or codename. As for now, all we know is that this phone will support the latest Bluetooth 4.2 technology and according to reports, the other midrange phone that HTC is working on will be powered by a MediaTek Helio P10 processor – the HTC One X10.
If this is the case, we should be able to see an HTC U Play phone that is powered by a Snapdragon processor given that the Helio P10 SoC has no support for the latest Bluetooth 4.2 technology. On the contrary, don’t expect to see a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor on the rumored HTC U Play given that this processor already offers support for the newer Bluetooth 5.0 technology, which is not listed in the SIG report.
Just recently, a famous tipster who goes by the Twitter handle @OnLeaks came in with a few, but unconfirmed, details of the supposed HTC U Play. Apparently, the phone will come with a 5.2-inch display screen while at the same time ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack like it happened with the HTC Bolt (HTC 10 Evo).
Having passed Bluetooth certification, don’t be surprised if the HTC U Play, probably alongside the likes of HTC U Ultra and HTC One X10, is unveiled this Thursday.
