Huawei Honor 6X vs. Honor 5X – Which Phone is Better?

Huawei Honor 6X vs Honor 5X

Huawei debuted the Honor 5X towards the end of last year – a phone that was meant to show the world what a great smartphone manufacturer the OEM can be.

This came on the back of the Huawei-made Google Nexus 6P release, a flagship that has also turned out to be a huge success. Unlike the Nexus 6P, the Honor 5X was meant for the entry level market, coming in with a decent price of just $160. Well, this price has been beaten by the phone’s successor – the Honor 6X – which is valued at just $149. The most interesting part of the story is that the new Honor 6X comes with some specs that are usually spared for the high-end smartphones, which are priced more than five times the price of the Honor phone.

So, how do these two – Huawei Honor 6X and Honor 5X – compare against each other?

Design and display

Despite having the same 5.5-inch display screen as well as screen resolutions that stand at Full HD 1080p with the same 401ppi, the Huawei Honor 6X and Honor 5X have their differences when it comes to design. The newer phone is more compact with a height of 150.9 mm and width of 72.6 mm compared to the 5X’s 151.3mm height and 76.3mm width. As for the thickness, the two share the same 8.2mm.

What this means is that the Honor 6X comes with thinner bezels on both sides, giving it a more modern look as well as compact feel. When put against the Honor 5X, it is easy to see the 6X as the premium version of the two.

Performance specs and software

Given that the two are a year apart, it is obvious to that the Honor 6X is more superior to the Honor 5X in terms of performance specs. Where the Honor 5X packs a Snapdragon 617 SoC alongside a RAM of either 2GB or 3GB and inbuilt storage of 16GB, the Honor 6X takes things to the next level by packing a HiSilicon Kirin 655 processor that is made by Huawei. This processor is paired with a RAM of either 3GB or 4GB while the storage options have also been improved to 32GB and 64GB. Like the Honor 5X, you also get a microSD card slot on the 6X.

In terms of software, the new Huawei Honor 6X has the newer Android Marshmallow OS on board as opposed to Android Lollipop that comes preinstalled on the Honor 5X. Still, you can up the game on the latter to bring it on the same level as its newer counterpart with a software upgrade.

Camera and battery

One thing that should turn out to be the USP of the Huawei Honor 6X is its dual-lens camera setup. As you may know, this feature is available on countable flagship handsets out there, Huawei gives you the luxury to enjoy it at an entry-level price. There is a 12MP lens and a 2MP lens on the back and although the details of how the setup will work are scarce, we expect better photography from the new phone when compared to the Honor 5X.

The dual-lens setup adds the likes of PDAF, HDR as well as LED flash, which pushes this camera further ahead of the 5X, whose 13MP rear snapper only adds autofocus, HDR and LED flash. Still, this older model can record up to 1080p videos like its newer counterpart. The front part of the Honor 6X has an 8MP sensor as opposed to the 5MP found on the Honor 5X.

Huawei Honor 6X

Huawei stepped up the game as far as the battery capacity is concerned, adding an extra 340mAh to the Honor 6X as well as fast charging technology. The Honor 5X, on the other hand, has a 3000mAh unit and lacks support for fast charging. However, both phones have a fingerprint scanner as well as support for 4G LTE connectivity, among other latest standards.
