If you are out there looking for one of the best devices midrange money can buy, the Huawei Honor 8 should be high up there on your list.
The phone has just about everything you can ever want in a midrange phone with high-end specs, but one of the things dragging it behind is its old software. Launched in October 2016, it is understandable that the Huawei Honor 8 ships with Android Marshmallow and EMUI 4.1 out of the box. However, despite having one of the poorest records in software updates, Huawei has picked up really good lately, with those using the Honor 8 now able to access the new OTA for Android 7.0 Nougat alongside the refreshed EMUI 5.0 OS.
Yes, you read it right! The Huawei Honor 8 can now be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat OTA. The update has been available in India for a while now, but only those who had the guts to try out the beta version were able to access the OS. This is no more as the company has now confirmed that mass rollout of the OS in the country has just begun, meaning that the OS is available to everyone.
Honor India took to its official page to confirm that the Android Nougat beta program is no more. The same announcement also confirmed that those using the Huawei Honor 8 can now look forward to the new OS, which is coming in over the air, sadly, it doesn’t bring the latest stable Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
Given that the Huawei Honor 8 was only released a few months ago, the company is expected to continue with the software update at least up to the latest version of Android 7.1.2 Nougat. But since Google has not made the stable version of this OS available just yet, we’ll see what happens in the coming months.
Meanwhile, if you have not yet seen an OTA notification come your way, you can check for the update by heading to your phone’s Settings>About phone>System updates, but this is not a guarantee that you’ll find the Nougat update ready for your device. But keep doing that and you might get lucky!
