A few days ago, Huawei Honor 8 users in Japan started receiving an update to the latest Android 7.0 Nougat.
The Huawei Mobile Japan branch had initially teased the release of this OS to the Honor 8 and less than a week later, it followed the teaser with the promised OTA update. At the time of release, the company said that it expects all Honor 8 models in Japan will have been updated to the new OS in a month’s time. Back then, we also reported that the global rollout of the OS to the same device shouldn’t take long now that those in Japan are already receiving it.
Well, the day is here and if you are using a Huawei Honor 8 smartphone, you should see an OTA notification on your device anytime from now. Be warned that this is a major software update that will take your phone from the chains of Android Marshmallow to a whole new life with Nougat. As a result, the update weighs a massive 2.23GB, meaning you will have to connect your device to the internet via a Wi-Fi source, otherwise, you’ll need an unlimited data package.
In addition to updating the Huawei Honor 8 to the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS, the update also comes with a new EMUI 5.0 skin – the same version that powers the phablet Huawei Mate 9, which debuted with Nougat out of the box. From what Huawei Japan revealed, the update should also include a multitude of performance improvements as well as bug fixes, among others. You also get the latest Android Security Patch that brings all security fixes from Google.
Just like in Japan, don’t expect the update to Android 7.0 Nougat to be available to all Huawei Honor 8 devices across the globe at once. It might take weeks before every unit receives the OTA notification, but you can always do a manual check via the Settings, although this doesn’t guarantee you the update.
