The Huawei Honor 8 was released last year and as a tradition of Huawei’s, there is a slimmed-down variant of the same phone already in the market.
Despite its launch in some countries, the Huawei Honor 8 Lite has not made it to quite a number of Asian and African markets for that matter – markets that the device is actually expected to be already selling. But as it appears, it won’t be long before the Honor 8 Lite debuts in India, which is one rightful market that should be selling the phone.
Being a developing market, it might be problematic for some when it comes to purchasing the standard Huawei Honor 8. However, with the Honor 8 Lite, which should come in at a cheaper price due to the slightly weaker specs and features compared to its sibling, Indians should be quick to adopt the phone once available, especially if some of the aesthetics and abilities of the standard model are retained.
The official Huawei website for India has added the Honor 8 Lite to the list of devices in the market, but so far, there is still no mention of when exactly the phone will start selling. Nonetheless, this development serves to justify a rumor that showed up late last month claiming that the Honor 8 Lite will be available in India as from May 10, which is actually a few days from now. Furthermore, the phone was recently teased by VP for Sales, Huawei & Honor Consumer, P Sanjeev, an indicator that it isn’t far from launch.
Onto specs, the Huawei Honor 8 Lite isn’t going to keep the same dual-lens camera you see on the Honor 8. Rather, it drops a single 12MP lens and keeps the other, but the front shooter remains the same at 8MP. Under the hood, the Honor 8 Lite has a Kirin 655 SoC that is paired with a 4GB RAM and an impressive 64GB storage that can be expanded via a microSD card.
The screen size is decent at 5.2 inches alongside a Full HD resolution and software-wise, the device is powered by an EMUI 5.0-based Android 7.0 Nougat OS out of the box. Keeping it alive is a 3000mAh battery unit and the phone will be available in four color variants of white, black, gold and blue. Although not confirmed, the Huawei Honor 8 Lite could be priced at about Rs 17,999, which is approximately $280.
