The latest of Huawei’s amazing smartphones to join the hype is the Mate 9, a phablet flagship that is expected to be released in the coming weeks or months, similar to the Huawei Honor 6X.
The Huawei Mate 9 has been in several leaks already and the latest involves a real photo of a prototype model of the phone complete with its protective casing. Even though the casing that covers the phone also means that most parts of the leaked Mate 9 remain unseen, the needed details can be singled out. These include a dual-lens camera setup on the back and a fingerprint scanner. There is also a mysterious spot that is uncovered on the case, but it is yet to be determined what role this will be given.
The leaked Huawei Mate 9 is indeed a monster of a phone, especially when it comes to size. The Huawei Mate 8 came in with a huge 6-inch display panel and if this picture is to be believed, it is possible this size could be retained or at least cut to 5.7 inches like the Galaxy Note 7 and Google Nexus 6P. Speaking of the Nexus 6P, the fingerprint scanner is of the Mate 9 is placed similarly as the 6P whereas the camera setup looks similar to what we see with the Huawei P9.
Taking an even closer look at the rear image reveals some similarities with the leaked images of the Honor 6X, which should also be launching soon, probably alongside the Huawei Mate 9. This close resemblance could mean Huawei is looking to slightly unify its devices’ design language, something the likes of Apple and Sony already do. If this is the case, it would be easier to recognize a Huawei device from a distance, just like it is to identify an iPhone from a multitude of phones.
Keep in mind that this is just a speculation and it doesn’t come from Huawei. As such, the design language of the Huawei Mate 9 as well as the Honor 6X is currently anyone’s guess. But this should change very soon.
