Instagram Allows Popular Brands to Insert Tags, a System Not Yet Available for the Users

Instagram is working on allowing the users to shop and makes purchases without having to interrupt the scrolling with a browser window.

Instagram is working on its efforts to monetize the photos which the users will upload to their photo sharing social network. Instagram is testing a feature currently where the brands will be able to insert shoppable tags in the photos. These tags will directly link to a product page which in turn will allow the users to buy the products. Eventually, these shoppable tags are expected to expand to photo carousels, video posts soon and should be out to all the users in many countries. This system is aimed at making buying things easier and consumer-ready for the users. With this new system, the brand will make their products visible to the users so that it will be easy for them to make purchases.

The Brand Partners

According to a representative of Instagram, this system will first arrive with a just a few selected partners. These partners in the Beta release of this Instagram feature will include Coach, Abercrombie & Fitch, Chubbies, BaubleBar, Hollister, Jackthreads, J.Crew, and Kate Spade New York, apart from the other participating brands like Lulus, Levi’s Brand, Macy’s, MVMT Watches, Michael Kors, Target, Warby Parker, Tory Burch, and Shopbop. All these 20 brands will be now able to share their posts which will have more depth regarding their brands and trends than any other average post.

Instagram, by this way, is dedicating more developer time and efforts in bringing new creative tools to the brands before the users. It is true that the brands are also the users; however, there is quite a difference in between the two of them.  A user does not have to pay to post on Instagram, so they are considered as the products. A brand will have to pay to Instagram for placing a featured post and that is why they are not the product.

Make a Purchase

The posts of the new product brands will have a look and a feel wherein the post will have an icon to start reading “Tap to view”. Once the icon is tapped, the in-app details pertaining to the product like the product’s price, description, and additional photos will be displayed along with another 5 more related products. The elements that will be presented at this point will link the user to the sale page of the product. A “Shop Now” button will be available for the users which will allow them to make purchases on the web. The users can also “Save” the product to come back and have a look later.

As of now, it is not sure if Instagram will be giving the opportunity of blogging similarly to the everyday users. However, it looks like the brands will be able to use all these tools for free. Anyway, an average user will not yet be able to create such tags which will lead them to the secondary content. According to a report by the VP of Monetization of Instagram, the system will be monetized by the photo-sharing company by allowing the brands to pay for the placement in feeds in which they are not already in. He also said that Instagram has almost 500,000 advertisers and is making some serious cash now after 4 years of its acquirement by Facebook.

The feature has been made available from almost 20 retail brands to the users in the United States on the iOS platform. It is expected for the users to see all these enhanced images sometime pretty soon.
