Sony’s Xperia X Concept program has just been updated with a new firmware that brings quite a number of goodies to this beta channel.
In addition to carrying the latest Android security update for the month of March, the latest Sony Xperia X Concept OTA update also comes with a new AptX codec for enhanced hi-res audio, including even when connected using Bluetooth.
The software update will update all Sony Xperia X smartphones that are taking part in the program to build number 38.3.1.A.74 and just in case you didn’t know, this update is based on the newer Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS, which is still in the beta testing stage. So far, a good number of Sony Xperia phones have been updated to the new Android 7.0 Nougat, among them last year’s Xperia X, Xperia X Performance, and Xperia XZ as well as 2015’s Xperia Z5 series, Xperia Z4 Tablet and Xperia Z3+.
Even though this update is only meant for those who are part of the Sony Xperia X Concept or rather the company’s experimental track, the tech giant has further confirmed that those who are not part of the program will also be updated with the features in the coming days. On the contrary, the stable version of Android 7.0 Nougat running on other Sony Xperia X devices has already been updated to with to the latest March Android security patch.
Unlike the Sony Xperia X Concept, the stable version that brings the latest Android security patch to the Xperia X and X Compact carries firmware version 34.2.A.0.333 while those on the Xperia X Performance and Xperia XZ can watch out for version 39.2.A.0.442. For you to receive the version that brings audio quality enhancements on your phone, you must join the Xperia Concept program by downloading the official Concept Installer app, which can be found via the Google Play Store. The new update is about 48MB, which is pretty much small.
