Lenovo is a well-known tech company that is based in China and in fact, it is the company behind the latest crop of Motorola smartphones, including the Moto Z and Moto G4 handsets.
Despite running the show for Motorola, Lenovo also sells its own branded phones in the midrange market. The company has a number of devices in the ZUK, Vibe, Phab, A, C and K series, among others. As noted, these devices are midrange and entry-level handsets, but it seems the Chinese OEM will still be rolling out the latest Android 7.0 Nougat to some of them.
So, which Lenovo devices will actually be receiving the new Android 7.0 Nougat? Let’s take a closer look.
Lenovo ZUK series
The Lenovo ZUK series has a number of handsets, with the latest in the family being the ZUK Edge. In fact, the phone has yet to be released, but it should start shipping very soon. Unlike others, you get Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box on the Lenovo ZUK Edge while an update to v7.1.1 is scheduled for February 2017. As for the ZUK Z2 and Z2 Pro, an update to Nougat should also happen alongside the ZUK Edge. Apparently, the Lenovo ZUK Z2 Plus is already receiving the new Nougat update as at the time of this writing.
Lenovo Vibe series
Another Lenovo family that will also be expected to be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat is the Vibe series. Consisting of the likes of Lenovo Vibe K5, K5 Plus, P1, P1 Turbo, X1, X3, S1 and S1 Lite, among others, not all units of this series will receive the Nougat treat. However, if you own the newer Vibe K5 or K5 Plus, be sure to get the update before the end of this January. As for those using the Vibe P1, P1 Turbo and Vibe X3, be ready for this update starting Q2 2017.
As for the Vibe X1, S1, S1 Lite and even the K4, don’t expect Android Nougat to come your way. The story is the same for the low-end Vibe A and Vibe C series.
Other Lenovo phones
For those who are using the likes of Lenovo Phab, Lenovo K and the aforementioned Lenovo A and C series, Android 7.0 Nougat may only remain to be a dream. However, the newer Lenovo Phab 2 Pro could be lined up for an update, but there probably won’t be room for the likes of Phab 2 and Phab 2 Plus.
Reports claim that the Lenovo K5 Note could get the update to Nougat this Q1 2017, but there is no room for the K6, K6 Note and K6 Power thanks to the budget nature of the phones.
Many of these Lenovo phones are based on Android Marshmallow and as it seems, most of them will remain stuck here. But for the few that will be receiving Android 7.0 Nougat, be sure to keep checking your phones for OTA notifications for there is no specific date for their release just yet.
