Mass Effect Andromeda is reported to run at 1080 pixels on the PS4 and at 900 pixels on the Xbox One.
It was slated for a release during the holiday season of 2016, but now the release date has been pushed to the 21st of March 2017 in North America and the 23rd of March 2017, for its European release. The game is based in the galaxy of Andromeda.
Disparity in Resolution
It is seen that there can be some disparity in the resolution on varying versions of console games. Though these differences seem to have reduced somewhat recently, the arrival of PS4 Pro has resulted in more controversies and arguments on the subject. The latest news is that the Mass Effect Andromeda is running different resolutions on different platforms.
Changing with Platforms
Biwoware’s Aaryn Flynn states that Mass Effect Andromeda will come with a 1800 pixels resolution for the PS4 Pro, using some discreet tweaking to help this work. On the other hand, the regular PS4 devices will have a resolution of 1080 pixels, whereas the Xbox One will only get a 900 pixel resolution. As far as frame rates are concerned, it will be capped at 30fps, but for those playing on desktops, these figures will be uncapped and will run according to the system permissions.
There is some good news, as the framerate for the desktop version remains uncapped. However, after games like the Mafia 3, the question also arises regarding desktop resolutions.
However, Flynn states that it is not true. He claims that Mark Cerny supports the claim that Mass Effect Andromeda runs at 1800 pixels on its checkerboard renders on the PS4 Pro. He added that it was the same as the rest of the Frostbite games being played on the PS4 and the Xbox One, with 1080 pixels and 900 pixels respectively, and all being 30 fps. Desktops have an uncapped framerate and Flynn feels that they have got over the cap of 30 fps in the cut scenes, though he needed to check it out again.
Gap in Resolution
This kind of a gap in resolution has also been witnessed in the past without other games of similar size. However, it is more rare these days, especially since Microsoft has released the development assets of Xbox One, with developers getting more used to creating games for platforms.
The PS4 Advantage
However, all said, it has to be accepted that the PS4 is more powerful beneath the hood, so it is to be expected that the visual quality of a game will be better on the PS4. As for the PS4 Pro, it is even more powerful, so the version on the latter will be superior. All this could go through a big change with the release of the Xbox One Project Scorpio, which is tipped to launch during the holidays.
It is expected that Mass Effect Andromeda will be available for the PS4, the Xbox One and desktops on the 21st of March.
