A number of companies are working on releasing smartphones that are powered by the MediaTek Helio P20 chipset this 2017, but the company has launched a new version in the same lineup dubbed Helio P25.
The new MediaTek Helio P25 processor is obviously coming in to replace the Helio P20 and with it comes quite a good number of improvements. However, the processor still has a few similarities with its predecessor, with the major one being the use of the same 16nm process that was used on the P20. It is still an octa-core processor, but it comes with a higher clock speed of 2.5GHz as compared to the 2.3GHz of the P20.
With the growing number of dual-lens camera smartphones in the industry, MediaTek Helio P25 has been designed with one eye on this market. Apparently, the chipset comes with the company’s Imagiq technology that is claimed to offer much more enhanced image signal processing that is needed for dual-lens camera phones. The processor is also said to combine enhanced multitasking efficiency and power-saving features to ensure that the phones in question offer the best, optimized performance ever.
In terms of photography, the MediaTek Helio P25 is meant to be the best in the P series. The Taiwanese tech giant says that this processor is equipped with a decent amount of camera features that include pioneering resolution where phones can have up to 24MP single cameras or go for a 13MP dual camera. In addition, manufacturers will be able to enjoy a dual camera-optimized SoC that will ensure things like real-time shadow DoF bokeh and Color+Mono de-noise are a norm. The processor also comes with HDR capacities for video recording and high-performance auto exposure that will aid in accelerating AE convergence speeds by up to 55%.
Like the dual-lens camera feature, current and future smartphones are also looking at packing up to 6GB RAM. Well, this MediaTek Helio P25 will have no problem when it comes to accommodating such an enormous RAM capacity. The processor will also support a Mali-T880 dual graphics processing unit that is clocked at a speed of 900MHz.
MediaTek is positive that smartphones powered by the Helio P25 will start arriving this Q1 2017, probably at the upcoming MWC 2017 show in Barcelona.
