The OnePlus One has received the July security update, and is likely to be followed by the Galaxy flagship phones very soon.
Firmware Update
The OnePlus One is receiving the Cyanogen update, comprising the security fixes for the month of July. The fixes are made for bugs present in the Android operating system of the device. The weight of the file is 277 MB and it is an OTA or over the air update. All users of the device can get the update, which will be rolled out to all devices within the next few days.
Security Fixes
The new OTA update does not offer any additional or novel features to the Android software on the OnePlus One. It merely brings in some fixes for security related bugs. In addition, the company offers this update only for the OnePlus One. There is no news regarding the update for the other phones, the OnePlus 2 and the OnePlus 3 versions. The roll out will be done in increments and is likely to be completed within 48 hours.
Samsung Next in Line
Another news states that Samsung has completed its firmware updates for its flagship devices. The company has not mentioned exactly which devices would receive the new firmware. It has claimed that the new updates will include the security fixes for Android that is due for the month of July. There will also be some fixes offered for TouchWiz, the company’s proprietary software, which is used an overlay over Android.
Testing in Progress
However, the new firmware updates from Samsung are not still available for the flagship devices. This is because some testing procedures are in progress. The news from the company is officially out, so it is expected that the update will soon arrive for the company devices.
July Maintenance Update
Samsung has continued to keep up its record of offering prompt monthly security fixes for its devices. The July maintenance release has begun to roll out for all its flagship devices. It is available as an OTA download. It can also be accessed using the Smart Switch, which is a desktop app. This update offers fixes for several critical issues on the flagship devices. All Android fixes of Google have been offered with this update. In addition, the update also plugs a few exploits that are exclusive to the Galaxy devices. Four such vulnerabilities have been closed with the maintenance update for July.
Google to Follow
After the OnePlus and the Samsung flagship devices, Google has also started the roll out of security updates for the Nexus devices. The devices for which the update is offered are the Nexus 6P, the Nexus 6, the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 5 and 7 and 9 as well as the Nexus Player. The update is expected to be completed in ta matter of two weeks. However, there are binary images files that users can access for manually updating the Nexus devices at once.
