A few days ago, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ appeared on the Wi-Fi Alliance with Android 7.0 Nougat on board, an indicator that the release of the update was imminent.
This Galaxy S6 Edge+ listing came about a week after Samsung Galaxy Note 5 appeared on the same platform with Android 7.0 Nougat running the show. While the former only received certification for a single variant with model number SM-G928A (AT&T), the latter had only T-Mobile missing from the listing as far as major U.S. carriers are concerned. However, the latest listings add more variants of the two phones to the Nougat bandwagon, including Canada, Australia, India, and so on.
The Wi-Fi Alliance has confirmed Android 7.0 Nougat updates for Samsung Galaxy Note 5 variants with model numbers SM-N920CD, SM-N920I, SM-N920T, SM-N920C, SM-N920L, SM-N9208, SM-N920W8, SM-N920S, SM-N920X, SM-N920A, SM-N920G, and SM-N920K. As for the Galaxy S6 Edge+, the listing includes SM-G928P, SM-G928R4, SM-G9280, SM-G928V, SM-G928W8, SM-G9287C, SM-G928F, SM-G928K, SM-G928I, SM-G928L, SM-G9287, SM-G928N0, SM-G928C, SM-G928T, SM-G928G, SM-G928X, SM-G928S, and SM-G928A.
As you can see, this is a huge list and it confirms that the two phones are currently being tested for the said models as far as Android 7.0 Nougat is concerned. While we don’t know how long this testing phase will really last, but based on past experiences, those using Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ can expect to receive the new OS before the end of this month.
After the release of Android Nougat to last year’s Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, it was obvious that the next phase would see Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+ join the party. Well, it should be happening soon and we’ll let you know when the OTA goes live. The same story is also expected for Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, which were released a few months before the two phablets came to life.
