New Huawei Honor 8 update brings Android 7.0 Nougat and EMUI 5.0 to the U.S. and Europe

The Huawei Honor 8 is one of the best “affordable flagship” you can find around based on the price and hardware specs it brings to the table.

Released last year, the Honor 8 has all the bells and whistles you can want in a high-end device, but looking at its price range of between $350 and $400 – although it keeps dropping on a regular basis – at launch, this phone is up there with the likes of OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, among others. However, one thing that has been pulling it down in the competition is the 2015 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow alongside the EMUI 4.1 skin.

While some users of the Huawei Honor 8 started receiving this update some time back, this was only restricted to the Japanese market. However, Honor has now made it official that all Honor 8 handsets can now expect to see an OTA notification for Android 7.0 Nougat anytime. The update is already on and with it, the phone will also be updated to EMUI 5.0 skin, which, as some pundits say, makes the device feel more like an Android phone.

Honor USA took to its Twitter account to make this news public, adding that the Honor 8 will start receiving the update on February 11. In response to a concerned Huawei Honor 8 fan from Europe, Honor EU also jumped in to confirm that this region will also receive the same treat on the very same day as the U.S.

As noted at the beginning, the Huawei Honor 8 is a great phone, but it has its bad side as well. If anything, the jump from EMUI 4.1 to EMUI 5.0 is expected to take care of some of the issues on the bad side of the phone – bugs. It is indeed a huge leap, so make sure you check out your Honor 8 for the OTA notification. You can also opt to do it manually via the phone’s Settings.
