Nintendo Switch’s Zelda Breath of the Wild Pushed to Second Place by Ghost Recon Wildlands

Ghost Recon Wildlands

When no one noticed it, the Ghost Recon Wildlands has managed to outsell the Nintendo Switch exclusive Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild.

Nintendo has been continuously promoting the fact that their Zelda game has outsold every other title in the market. And, it might sound very ironical but the game has managed to sell approximately 25,000 copies more than the Switch console itself. Analysts later predicted that a lot of gamers not only wanted to buy the Breath of the Wild but they also opted for the collector’s edition and choose not to open it ever. The mint condition games may be worth a lot in the future which is why the gamers decided to invest twice in the same game. It drastically boosted the overall sales numbers.

Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild on PC

The Nintendo Switch console has sold about 900,000 units so far while the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild has sold 925,000 copies. These are approximate numbers but they show the true potential of how big the game sold even though it is the only AAA title available on the hybrid console at the moment. The latest NPD report confirmed that Wildlands which got released on three different platforms, PS4, Xbox One and PC has sold the most number of copies in the month of March Zelda which got launched on Wii U and Nintendo Switch managed to grab the second position.

Having multiple platforms to make sales obviously gave the Ghost Recon franchise the much needed advantage. But, the Breath of the Wild broke many records on launch. NPD reports earlier confirmed that it had the highest attach rate to any console and had the biggest reach on social media where people continously kept discussing things about the title. The game obviously had the higher advantage when compared to Wildlands which was seldom in the news. Besides, the beta testing of the Ghost Recon game didn’t go well on PC as a lot of people complained performance issues and the controls didn’t work as intended.

Despite all the critical reviews and issues, Wildlands had managed to outsell the Legend of Zelda at least last month in the United States. The third position is held by Mass Effect Andromeda by Electronic Arts followed by Sony exclusives Horizon Zero Dawn and MLB 17 The Show. Surprisingly, GTA V is still in the race at the sixth position and Ubisoft’s For Honor at seventh position. Call of Duty Infinite Warfare is in the tenth place.
