Sony revealed the new God of War for the PS4 console and it was met with mixed reviews at the E3 2016 show.
Some opined it looked a lot like Skyrim while others said that this is the refresh the title requires.
God of War has been nearly the same for more than a decade. It is one of the most successful exclusive title on the PS2 and the PS3 console. Older versions of the game are available on the PS Vita handheld console and it is amazingly fun even when the graphics do look outdated. The combat mechanics, the character Kratos and the intense storyline made it a huge success. But, with years passing by, a dire change is required which the developers did.
The entire viewpoint of the game has changed this time around. God of War on PS4 looks like Assassin’s Creed and Skyrim. Players are now able to view Kratos from the back and they even have a young boy to play with. It is similar to the Last of Us. Kratos’ son will be an important character in the game and it is not possible to directly control him. Yet, he will play a significant role throughout the storyline and also take part in combat.
The developers wanted to show the human side of Kratos who used to be a hack and slash killer all these years. We should say, they have succeeded to a good extent despite the reviews being mixed. Ascension, the last game in the series had a fresh multiplayer experience. When most expected more of the same, it is shocking to know that the new God of War will not feature a multiplayer component. It is going to be a single player game right from the start till the end.
Kratos’ son will be there throughout the maps and the levels but he won’t hinder the combat at any point. He also doesn’t know anything about his father’s past and the struggles he has to undergo. Besides, he has killed so many which may change his son’s view but all these emotional stuff might probably be part of the storyline, we hope.
The development team also confirmed that it won’t be the last game in the series. Kratos will be coming back, mostly on the PS4 Neo console with a new gameplay mechanism that brings back memories from the PS2 title.
