Rumors: Samsung Galaxy A and J Series Lining up for Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update

Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Note Edge and Note 5

Samsung has been busy lately with rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow software update to its flagship devices from recent years.

The likes of Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge preinstalled with Marshmallow out of the box. However, the company has already availed the update to last year’s flagships that include Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy S6 Edge as well as Galaxy S6. The same has also happened for 2014’s Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Note Edge as well as Samsung Galaxy S5 and its related variants. This is great for those who use these devices, but what about those tied to the mid-tier Samsung Galaxy A and Galaxy J series?

Well, according to the latest speculations, it seems Samsung is working on bringing Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the new A and J series, but this will probably affect the “higher-end” models of these mid-tier phones. Sam Mobile recently reported that the OS is already running on Samsung Galaxy A7 and Galaxy A5 models. This has further fueled speculations that the OS might soon be coming to other models in the Galaxy A series as well as showing the same love to Galaxy J series.

Samsung Galaxy A5 with model number SM-A510F was spotted running on the current Android Marshmallow OS. This happened towards the end of last week, but Samsung has not made it official yet. Given that the Galaxy A series phones came into life preinstalled with Android Lollipop, the new Marshmallow update might just be their best shot at getting a software update. The devices will probably be left out of the upcoming Android N update.

Samsung Galaxy A9 and Galaxy A3 could also be updated with Marshmallow soon

Given that Samsung Galaxy A9 is basically the higher-end model of the Galaxy A series, it is possible that it will be receiving the same treat as Galaxy A7 and A5 very soon. There are even suggestions that the lower end model, Galaxy A3, will also be receiving this Marshmallow update thanks to the fact that there are lots of similarities between these phones when it comes to hardware.

This year’s models of Samsung Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A9 come preinstalled with things like the fingerprint scanner and Samsung Pay, features that are synonymous with the latest Android Marshmallow. This even fuels the speculations that these devices will be joining the Marshmallow party very soon.

Some of the things you get with Android 6.0 Marshmallow include Doze mode, new app permissions manager as well as more uses for your fingerprint sensor other than just unlocking your device.
