Samsung Galaxy A3 2016 gets October’s Android security patch

Several Samsung devices have recently been updated to the current October Android security patch and the latest to join the party is the Galaxy A3 2016.

The Galaxy A5 2016 was the first to receive the update, but back then, there was no room for the smaller A3 2016. With only a few days left before Google publishes November’s security patch, it means that owners of this phone will have to wait for weeks before they receive next month’s update. Or perhaps they’ll have to wait even longer before receiving the next security update.

This is because before the latest update that installs this month’s security patch, the Galaxy A3 2016 was still on August’s security patch. This means that there was no update in September, but the company can be excused because of the busy schedule of dealing with the Blueborne vulnerability. Other Samsung phones that have already been updated to the latest security patch include the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S8 as well as the Galaxy Note 8.

If you own Samsung Galaxy A3 2016 with model number SM-A310F, you should receive an OTA notification prompting you to install the new update. Accompanying this update are fixes to up to 215 vulnerabilities found in the Android OS alongside six others found in Samsung’s own software that runs on top of the stock software.

Similar to any other OTA update, not all Galaxy A3 2016 units will receive the update at once. Rather, it will be rolled out in stages, which means it may take days before all units are updated. If you have not seen the OTA and your Galaxy A3 2016 has model number SM-A310F, now is the time to head to the Settings>Software update and check for updates manually, otherwise, sit back and wait for the notification.
