There was a time Samsung said that it will be working on its smartphone naming strategy for the low-end and midrange family. However, this hasn’t gotten any better over the past year or so.
We’ve seen some Samsung Galaxy On series handsets appear in other markets as Galaxy J series phones, something that makes it quite difficult to identify the latest model that has appeared on benchmarking platform GFXBench.
What draws the phone closer to Samsung Galaxy On7 Pro or possibly Galaxy On7 2017 model is the fact that it comes with model number SM-G615. The previous models of the Galaxy On7 had numbers SM-G600 and SM-G610, if anything, the successor to last year’s model was expected to come with model number SM-G620. So, where does this leave this unknown SM-G615 model?
For now, it’s safe to assume that this is another Galaxy On7 variant, possibly the Pro version or 2017 model. According to the listing on GFXBench, the phone will ship with a 5.7-inch Full HD display screen and unlike previous rumors that had pointed towards a 3GB RAM, the listed model has 4GB RAM and 32GB of expandable storage.
The alleged Samsung Galaxy On7 Pro also comes in with a MediaTek MT6757 SoC that is clocked at 2.3GHz and has a Mali-T880 graphics processing unit. Software-wise, the On7 Pro will ship with the new Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and being a Sammy device, you can expect the company’s custom UI to run on top. Interestingly, the Galaxy On5 2017, which was launched not so long ago, has Android Marshmallow running the show.
There is a 13MP lens on both sides, but they can only manage to record up to 1080p videos, which is still great for a midrange phone. We don’t really know when Samsung plans to make this phone available, but given that the On5 2017 has already been unveiled, it won’t be long before the Galaxy On7 2017 comes to life.
