Samsung Galaxy S6 with Android 7.0 Nougat Listed on Wi-Fi Alliance – Release Date Imminent?

Samsung Galaxy S6

After rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat to Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, attention has now shifted to the 2015 Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

According to fresh details surfacing from the Wi-Fi Alliance, it appears that Samsung Galaxy S6 is next up in line as far as the Nougat update is concerned. The phone has already been certified by the organization and it is now ready to start receiving over the air updates from Samsung.

Interestingly, just about every carrier-branded model has been listed on Wi-Fi Alliance with Android 7.0 Nougat. In short, the update should also be making it to carrier-branded Samsung Galaxy S6 handsets in the coming days. Whether you are on Sprint, Verizon, or U.S. Cellular, the update should be coming your way soon. Even though there is no AT&T or T-Mobile variants on show, it doesn’t mean that these two carriers won’t be updating this model to the latest Nougat OS.

There is also no talk of Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge or Galaxy S6 Edge+, however, these two should also join the standard S6 in receiving the update to Android 7.0 Nougat once it is on. As for now, we can’t say when this update will begin rolling out, but now that the phone has appeared with the new OS on board, it shouldn’t be long before this happens.

Another 2015 flagship that Samsung is also expected to update to the new OS is the Galaxy Note 5. In fact, many expected this device to lead the way in terms of 2015 gadgets. Nonetheless, the phablet should also be updated in the coming days, probably alongside the Galaxy S6. Those using the AT&T-exclusive Samsung Galaxy S6 Active are also in contention to receive the Nougat dessert and given that this carrier’s standard model is not appearing anywhere, it might also take some time before the rugged version gets this treat.

We’ll for sure keep an eye on the updates and let you know when your Samsung Galaxy S6 or Note 5 phone will receive Android 7.0 Nougat OTA.
