Samsung Galaxy S7 Active has been a silent talk for many, but it is emerging that the phone might indeed be in the making and being lined up for a release very soon.
With Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge already months old, it is a perfect time for Samsung to follow its flagship with a rugged Active version. If you are enthusiastic about this phone, we have gathered some essential details you probably need to know, including the possible release date.
It began with Samsung Galaxy S4 Active and since then, the story has been the same for all Samsung Galaxy S series. Samsung Galaxy S7 is already a solid contender for the best smartphone of the year, as a result, it will be important for Samsung to make the Galaxy S7 Active even better over the rugged Galaxy S6 Active.
Expect nothing other than AT&T to partner with Samsung for the Galaxy S7 Active model. It has been this way ever since this rugged version started showing up. Of course, Samsung hasn’t mentioned a thing about the upcoming phone, however, we have enough leaks going around to basically confirm that the device is indeed in the making. Here’s what we can tell you so far.
Latest leaks on Samsung Galaxy S7 Active
As mentioned earlier, the current stories about Samsung Galaxy S7 Active are based on mere speculations and rumors. However, we recently obtained new leaked photos of the phone, with clear details of the name and carrier on board.
While the leaked photo speaks much about the color and existence of the phone, there is some information about the features to expect from the same leaks. The Galaxy S7 Active will keep its rugged body that has seen it loved by many lovers of outdoor activities. There might be a possible introduction of a fingerprint sensor on the rear while the capacitive buttons might be replaced with physical buttons.
From what we can gather, Samsung Galaxy S7 Active will keep the trend of the company by featuring the same hardware specs under the hood as the flagship model. While the Galaxy S4 Active and S5 Active didn’t follow this trend, we saw it happen last year with the S6 Active packing the same processing power as the flagship S6. In fact, it even got the better of the flagship model with improved features such as a bigger battery unit. This is the most likely happening for this year’s Galaxy S7 Active.
If this works out, expect to meet a Samsung Galaxy S7 Active packed with a 5.1 or 5.2-inch Super AMOLED QHD screen with a resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels. Under the hood, the phone will come with a Snapdragon 820 SoC, 4GB RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. In terms of software, the device will be powered by the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and Samsung’s TouchWiz on top of it.
Samsung’s new camera technology will also appear on the Galaxy S7 Active and so will IP68 certification. However, to keep its rugged nature, the device will possibly add military-grade drop and shock resistance and even more. The Galaxy S7 has a fingerprint scanner and so will the Active model, however, the latter will probably get the same battery capacity as the larger Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Active packed the same specs as the Galaxy S6 model, apart from the larger 3500mAh battery unit compared to the 2550mAh of the latter. Furthermore, the Active featured things like water resistance and a rugged design, but it dropped the idea of a fingerprint scanner in favor of dedicated buttons. This looks to be destined for change with respect to Samsung Galaxy S7 Active, at least according to the leaked photos.
This year’s Active might be the first to feature a fingerprint sensor, but rather than have it on the home button, Samsung will place it on the rear of the device. The phone will also be made of aluminum and rubber on the sides to complete the rugged design.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Active release date
Samsung released Galaxy S6 Active on June 12, 2015. Exactly a year before this date, Samsung Galaxy S5 Active was announced, but it was released later on. If this trend is to be followed, we might see an even earlier release for Samsung Galaxy S7 Active. The phone will probably be announced sometimes later this month and go on sale early next month.
We’ll keep following the story and keep you updated on clearer matters of the possible release date and pricing of the phone.
