Samsung seems to have learnt from its past mistakes that led to a court case in the Netherlands with respect to delayed software updates, with Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge already receiving June Android security updates.
Ever since Google introduced the monthly software updates, it has been problematic getting timely updates to devices as soon as they are released. However, Samsung has had an upper hand in this matter for the past two months or so. Towards the end of last month, an Indian user of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 revealed that May Android security updates were already rolling out. This is the same story happening again this month, but this time, it has the curved edge variant in mind.
Those using Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge can apparently download and install the June Android security updates as early as today, more than 24 hours before the new month kicks in. This is great news for Samsung thanks to the fact that it has on numerous occasions been accused of delaying updates to its flagship devices. While the latest reports are coming from a user of Orange carrier in Spain, the fact that the update is already here means that it should be making its way to other regions in the near future, starting with the unlocked versions of Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
Since this is an OTA update, you will be notified whenever the package is ready for downloading and installing on your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. The same update is also expected to come to the standard Samsung Galaxy S7 at about the same time as the S7 Edge, but other Galaxy devices from last year will be receiving the same update later on this coming month.
If you can’t wait for the OTA update, head to your Galaxy S7 Edge’s Settings>About device and tap the “Download updates manually” option to check out for the installer’s availability.
