Galaxy S7 Edge meanwhile will get the Lineage OS 14.1 ROM for those who are willing to take the plunge and go with an official ROM.

Being the flagship models they are, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge should probably be running Android 7.0 Nougat for weeks now. However, the company has a strict verification and rollout policy that delayed it so long. The Galaxy beta program has finally come to an end and the team is done testing Nougat to work properly on their smartphones. Users have posted images online, according to theandroidsoul and as different people have posted it, it is confirmed that Samsung is rolling it out for them all at once.

Nougat is the coveted Android version which is already available on LG G5. Surprisingly, even the entry level Moto G4 and G4 Plus phones have received it whereas Galaxy S7, the big flagship model is still floundering on Android 6.0. The company has been continously collecting information from users and making changes based on it. While the first version of the OS will roll out soon, it will be followed by a patch update right after to increase performance and stability. Samsung Galaxy S6 will receive the update as well but the Note 7 is out of the race. Other phones to get updated to the Android operating system are Galaxy C9 Pro, Galaxy A3, A5 and A7 2016 editions.

For users who are interested in custom mods like the CyanogenMod, the tradition lives on with the new Lineage OS 14.1. The unofficial ROM is now available for Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Users can tinker with their phone by flashing it and installing the version which is exactly the same as the CyanogenMod 14.1 with little changes. The update will allow hardcore fans to enjoy updates earlier before the company brings newer operating systems. For those who find it risky to go for an unofficial ROM, Samsung will soon roll out Nougat to both the Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge smartphones.

Galaxy Nougat beta program end

CM will no longer be supported and it is now taken over by the Lineage team. The mod will continue to live on under a different name and the official ROM for the same will be available in the first week of January next year. It is important that you treat these with caution as they are not officially approved by Samsung.
