Samsung Galaxy S8+ is getting August’s Android security patch

It’s just a little over a week since the latest Android security patch for the month of August started rolling out to the Google Pixel and Nexus family, but it’s now that the high-end Samsung Galaxy S8+ is getting the same treat in India.

Last week, Samsung detailed this month’s Security Maintenance Release, which indicated that the official rollout would begin a few days later. Not so long ago, those in Germany, Turkey and the UAE started receiving the latest security patch on their Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ units via OTA updates.

Well, it has taken the company less than a few hours to start giving those in India the same treat. However, unlike the said markets where the two phones are all getting the new update, only those using the high-end Galaxy S8+ in India can confirm to have received the update. Of course, it won’t be long before the S8 family joins the party, but as for now, we don’t know the exact date.

Samsung Galaxy S8+ is receiving an update with firmware version G955FXXU1AQH3 and it weighs a significant 600MB. This huge for a typical monthly security patch, but this is no typical update because it has more to offer. In addition to installing this month’s security patch, the update also comes with improved stability for PC connections and better auto brightness control.

You will also be served with up to 28 patches for vulnerabilities in the Android system alongside 12 others for issues found in Samsung’s own software. As far as new features are concerned, there’s nothing to expect.

Since the update has just started rolling out today, some Samsung Galaxy S8+ users might not be able to see the OTA notification this day. It will take some time before all units can download and install the update, but you have the option to do it manually via the Settings>About phone.
