If you own a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, there is really great news for you as American carrier AT&T is now rolling out Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update to this tablet.
This continues Samsung’s push for all of its compatible devices to be updated with the latest Marshmallow OS, especially at a time when the OS is still struggling against the likes of Android KitKat and Android Lollipop.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow has been here for almost a year now, but not so many have had the chance to actually know what it brings. Users of Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 are not excluded, but once the update is installed, they will be able to enjoy new features such as Doze mode, enhanced apps permission system, Google Now on Tap, and many other improvements both from Google and Samsung.
The update also comes with a new NumberSync feature where owners of the Galaxy Tab S2 will be able to access regular smartphone-related actions such as voice and video calls on this device. The tablet will make use of the existing phone number of the owner and it will continue working even if the AT&T-powered smartphone is not within range.
Just like many other major software updates, AT&T advises users of the Galaxy Tab S2 to make a backup of their data before commencing the upgrade. Even though there is really nothing to worry about since the installation will not affect the current files, it is better to stay safe and do as the company recommends. The Marshmallow update is about 1GB in size and as such, make sure you are using a strong Wi-Fi network. Apparently, AT&T warns that proceeding with the Marshmallow update on your Galaxy Tab S2 means that the Lollipop warranty of the tablet has been voided. In short, it will not be possible to downgrade to the previous OS in case of anything.
If the OTA notification for the update hasn’t shown up yet, there is room for a manual update. This requires that you visit the Settings app of your Galaxy Tab S2 and hit the About device option. On the next page, tap on Software Update and then Check for Updates. If the update is ready, you will be prompted to Update Now and once done, you can proceed with installation of the downloaded files.
Make sure the new Android version is 6.0.1 with firmware version T817AUCU2BPF2.
