Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Receives Android Update for Unlocked Versions in the US

Galaxy Tab S2

The premium tablet offerings from Samsung in the United States have started receiving updates to the android 6.0.1 operating system.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is the latest to receive this update. Incidentally, the United States is one of the regions lagging behind in terms of updates for the tablets from Samsung. In Germany, the marshmallow updates for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 came as early as in April while smaller variants of the tablet started receiving the same in May. The latest update is available for the unlocked variants of the tablet.

Available since September 2015, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is one of the thinnest tablets in the market at just 5.6 mm. It is directly seen as a competitor to the iPad Air. For this purpose, the tablet comes equipped with the same 9.7 inch display as seen in the iPad. The technology, however, is significantly better due to the use of the super AMOLED screens. Even though many of the Samsung smartphones have started featuring QHD displays, it is disappointing to know that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 only has a pixel density of just over 250 PPI.

After starting its life with the android 5.0.2 lollipop version, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 has since received numerous updates and the latest will bump the operating system to the 6.0.1 version. It either comes with Exynos or snapdragon processors depending on the region of sale. The geography of sale does not alter aspects like the internal memory, which has two options – 32 or 64 GB. Since the tablet supports microSD cards of up to 256 GB, it is highly unlikely that users will find trouble even if they go for the lower end variant. The amount of RAM is standard on both variants at 3 GB.

This sufficient amount of RAM coupled with a decent snapdragon 652 processor is thought to be one of the reasons behind Samsung offering the latest android update. Despite the better memory management aspects in the new operating system, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is expected to show some signs of lag in certain areas. The device is rather than decent in terms of imaging because of its eight-megapixel rear camera and 2.1-megapixel front camera. However, these cameras are not equipped with plethora of features. The new android update brings several new features like Google now on tap and Doze mode.
