While Samsung may not be the first to introduce folding and flipping smartphones, the manufacturer is all set to offer the first rollable smartphone in 2025.
The handset is likely to be launched in the second quarter of the year. A recent leak gives some interesting details about the upcoming Samsung rollable smartphone.
Samsung Rollable Smartphone Specifications
Going by a South Korean source, The Elec, the smartphone will have a huge display of 12.4 inches when it is unfurled completely. As expected, the display is stretchable and can be expanded from 49 mm to 254.4 mm. This means that the new smartphone will have the biggest screen among all foldable handsets. The actual rolled-up diameter of the display is yet to be known.

Samsung is anticipated to opt for an OLED panel for the display. It is worth recalling that the manufacturer owns Rollable Flex, a rollable OLED screen that is exclusively intended for mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. Samsung unveiled this screen at the SID Display Week 2024 event in May this year.
The hardware details that the manufacturer plans for the upcoming smartphone are unclear at the moment. However, it is expected that the handset will incorporate an under-display shooter in the front for video calls and selfies. This camera is slated to deliver an uninterrupted display.
Concept of Rollable Smartphones
Interestingly, the rollable smartphone concept is not new in the market. Motorola unveiled its concept Rizr rollable last year, which was more of a flip-style smartphone rather than rolling type. This was soon followed by the Phantom Ultimate concept from TECNO.

OPPO put forward a rollable prototype way back in 2021 although it has not yet seen the light of the day. LG had also declared its plans to introduce such a smartphone before it went out of the smartphone market in 2021.
