Sony Acknowledges Accelerometer Bug; Promises Quick Update

Sony Xperia X Performance

The Sony Xperia X Performance is one of the top devices to come out of the Sony stable in recent years.

Released in June 2016, the phone brings the best of hardware in a compact package. As with any other smartphone, the Sony Xperia X Performance has not been without bugs. One of the major issues affecting the phone has been the incidence of the accelerometer having its own mind. Sony has confirmed the existence of this problem and they have also confirmed that a software update is on the way to rectify the issue.

The Sony Xperia X Performance is a phone that provides cutting edge hardware in a compact form factor thanks to its 5 inch display. As ever, the screen uses the best of Sony technology found in televisions. The use of Triluminous technology and the X Reality Engine ensure that this screen is one of the best in terms of color accuracy while being able to go to great lengths in terms of brightness. Even though it offers only full HD resolution, it is more than enough on a display of this size. The display on the phone is close to 450 PPI in terms of pixel density.

Almost every smartphone manufacturer today uses the imaging sensor from Sony for their cameras, but ironically, Sony has faced criticism with regard to the performance of their smartphones in the imaging department. The Sony Xperia X Performance uses a 23.3 megapixel camera in the rear. While it continues to underperform and not be at the level of the Samsung Galaxy S7, it is a vast improvement over the predecessors. The camera on the Sony Xperia X Performance produces some good imaging under good lighting conditions and fails to shine under low light conditions.

Sony has prided itself on offering smartphones that easily last for 2 days. While the company may no longer be concentrating on this element with the current devices, the Sony Xperia X Performance is capable of some good numbers nonetheless. It is also helped by the fast charging feature on offer. The phone offers a 2700 mAh battery and it would just about be capable of lasting a full day, although heavy users will have to top up using the fast charging feature.

After the recent round of price cuts, the Sony Xperia X Performance is available for $500 making it one of the few phones to offer a snapdragon 820 chip at this price.
