Sony has new OTA updates for Xperia XZ, XZs and X Performance, still doesn’t fix battery life issues

As we recently highlighted, Sony is doing a pretty decent job in the software updates’ department. The company has already updated a bunch of devices to the new Android Oreo, among them Sony Xperia XZ, XZs and X Performance and today, there are even more updates for these phones.

While the updates rolling out are targeting Sony Xperia XZ, Sony Xperia XZs and Sony Xperia X Performance, they have nothing to do with OS upgrades. Instead, these three devices will be receiving the latest Android security patches for the month of December, which are all based on Android Oreo.

It’s close to two weeks since Google published the official December Android security updates for Pixel and Nexuses and even though Sony is not the first non-Google OEM to release the updates, this is still early enough when compared to previous cases.

If you own any of Sony Xperia XZ, Xperia XZs or Xperia X Performance, the new update is rolling out with software version 41.3.A.2.24, up from the previous version 41.3.A.0.401. The update installs a security patch level dated December 1, which also brings a slew of bug fixes and performance enhancements to the trio.

As pointed out earlier, these three devices have already been upgraded to Android Oreo and as a result, the firmwares rolling out are based on the new OS. As usual with new OS upgrades, there have been a few cases where users of Sony Xperia XZ have reported inconsistence performances as well as poor battery life. Apparently, some people are still experiencing battery life issues even after this update, which could mean Sony hasn’t fixed the issues just yet.
