A recent report from Sony highlighted the company’s desire to be the first to roll out Android 7.0 Nougat to its compatible devices and as it seems, this feat is achievable.
After rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat to the Xperia X Performance and Xperia XZ flagships, the Japanese tech giant has now turned attention to the midrange Sony Xperia X alongside the Xperia X Compact with respect to the same Nougat update. Incoming reports can confirm that the tech giant is now rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat OTA to these two phones, just like it had promised in a previous statement a few months ago.
Those using Sony Xperia X with model numbers F5121 and F5122 alongside the smaller Xperia X Compact can now be sure of getting this update before the Christmas sets in. The new update comes with build number 34.2.A.0.266, but as expected, the update is not yet available globally. Those using these two phones from the Middle East, Australia, Russia, Thailand, Vietnam, Turkey as well as Latin American should start seeing the OTA notification any time from now.
It is not strange for a major software update to start rolling out to devices in phases. In fact, this is always the case and as such, users of Sony Xperia X and X Compact in other regions across the globe shouldn’t be worried at all. If you are that worried, there is always a shortcut to getting the new Android 7.0 Nougat installed on your Xperia X phone. This is through the handsets’ Settings menu, but this doesn’t guarantee that you will find the OTA files ready for downloading on your phone.
It shouldn’t be long before all other Sony Xperia handsets start receiving this update to Android 7.0 Nougat, but as for now, the OS is only available to the three handsets, unless you own the high-end Xperia X Performance or XZ.
