The Firmware Update

Sony Mobile made this announcement on the official Xperia blog and said that while the previous update in December 2016 mainly focused on mending the issues concerned with Google security patches, the current update will not include anything big, but will include many small bug fixes, apart from enhancing the performance-based issues. This is the second notable update for the Sony Xperia XZ and X Performance smartphones after it had received the previous update in December, which rolled out the Android 7.0 Nougat to these devices.

It is worth noting that for installing the current update, it is important to update the Flashtool to the latest version 0.9.23.0 so that the Xperia firmware files that are running on Android Nougat can be flashed. The Flashtool for Xperia smartphones, developed by Androxyde had brought in the support for Android 7.0 Nougat to help with the popular flashing service of the Xperia devices.

The Android 7.0 Nougat Update

The previous update for Xperia had the Flashtool carrying the build number 0.9.23.0, allowing the users to flash the Nougat FTF files to the Sony Xperia smartphones. It also came with a Flashtool Script (FSC), which was capable of telling the user whether to flash the device or not. A couple of clean features made their way through the previous update while the Android 7.0 Nougat was added to the Xperia phones. The update made it easy to multi-task, enabled sharing audio and video files via the new Messaging app, offered better manual controls for the camera, a more personal and smarter home screen, and also an improved battery life.

How to Install the Latest Update

Xperia XZ Latest Update

Before starting with the installation of the latest update, it is mandatory that the users are registered on the Xperia blog forum. Once they have completed the registration, they can download the firmware files by just clicking on the ‘Download Now’ button. Once the link has been opened, a decryption key will be needed to latch onto the firmware. The decryption key has been provided as a spoiler on the forum. Once the download is completed, it is important to ensure that all the drivers have been installed correctly on the PC. After this, the Sony Xperia device can be used to flash the firmware. A detailed guide has been provided at the Xperia blog to help the users with a step-by-step explanation of the installation process.

The company has listed the various firmware files for the two different variants of the Sony Xperia phones in its blog post. The current update will be rolling out as of now only in a few regions that include Central Europe, France, Australia, and Russia.
