T-Mobile Rolls Out Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Marshmallow Update, AT&T to Follow

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge began receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow update a while ago. However, not every user of these devices has received the 2015 version of Android OS.

T-Mobile users of last year’s Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge can finally get a taste of what Verizon users have been enjoying for the past few days. The new version of Android OS has been very slow at reaching out to compatible devices, but it is slowly making way up the ladder, with recent stats showing that it has clocked 4.6% of the total Android market share.

The new update on T-Mobile has finally left the testing stage and it’s now ready for download on the two Galaxy S6 variants. While this is happening, those using the same devices on AT&T will have to keep up with their patience as the carrier has yet to announce when this operating system will hit these flagships.

It’s been over five months since Android 6.0 Marshmallow was released to Google Nexus devices. The blame has been put on carriers and OEMs thanks to the fact that the two also take the operating system through vigorous tests as well as make their own tweaks before finally rolling the OS to devices. After leaving Google, the Android OS is sent to OEMs, in this case, Samsung. Samsung will take some time with the software, making tweaks in order to align it with its own functionality, and later on send it to carriers, in this case, T-Mobile.

All throughout March, T-Mobile has had Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS in the Manufacturer development stage. The status of the update changed to “Testing” towards the end of March and it seems the testing process is over. Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge users on T-Mobile can now download and install the latest version of Android Marshmallow, which carries version number UVU3EPD1. Before updating, make sure you have enough space on your device since the firmware is about 1.2GB in size.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ Marshmallow update not yet out

Verizon and Sprint users are currently receiving the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus Marshmallow update following the release of Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Marshmallow update earlier in the month. However, those using this supersized smartphone on T-Mobile will have to keep up with the wait as the status is still listed as Manufacturer Development stage. It will take some time since the OS has to also go through the testing phase before listed as complete.

While T-Mobile users are celebrating the Marshmallow update on Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, those using the same devices on AT&T will also have to wait longer before this software shows up on their devices. Initially, it was indicated that the Marshmallow update on last year’s flagships will show up on AT&T as from March 14. However, exactly one month down the line, this hasn’t happened. Given that the carrier is the only remaining among the big four, there is no doubt that it will do something very soon, probably in the coming days.
