The Apple iPhone 7 Plus has started to hit the stores and it is already expected to be the more popular variant over the iPhone 7.
This would seem as a shift in the interests of the iPhone buyers considering that the smaller iPhone has always been in preference since the Plus model was introduced a few years ago. Even though the Apple iPhone 7 Plus is significantly larger for a 5.5-inch phone, it would be taking on the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. It is probably the best time to take on this Galaxy Note series considering that the Galaxy Note 7 has been hit with a hefty recall.
Both phones come into the category of the phablet, but more so in the case of the iPhone 7 Plus. This would be surprising given that the phone has a slightly smaller 5.5 inch display whereas the Galaxy Note 7 has the larger 5.7-inch screen. However, the Samsung device has almost no bezels on the side due to its curved display while the iPhone 7 Plus carries on with a similar front facia from the previous generation.
In terms of design, the Galaxy Note 7 is significantly more futuristic and looks more premium too. The iPhone 7 Plus is more of a classic design and it is more elegant. Simple aspects like hiding the antenna bands at the top of the phone work in favor of the iPhone 7 Plus, which is also now available in some of the best colors – jet black and matte black. The matte black version of the phone is already proving to be a huge hit and it is also less fingerprint prone. The same cannot be said of the Galaxy Note 7, which uses the same high-gloss feel seen on the Samsung Galaxy S7.
The use of the snapdragon 820 processor along with the 4 GB of RAM makes the Galaxy Note 7 is one of the fastest in the business. However, the Apple iPhone 7 Plus has already been setting some new benchmarks with the A10 Fusion chipset, while it also becomes the first iPhone to come with 3 GB of RAM. Since the iOS is much more processor and RAM friendly than the android OS, the performance is marginally better on the iPhone 7 Plus.
One of the biggest advantages of having the iPhone 7 Plus are the dual cameras. While an update will equip the cameras with the ability to take DSLR-like pictures, it is also possible to experience the telephoto and wide-angle lens separately for the time being. The quality of the pictures can only be described as outstanding going by the sample shots released by the Sports Illustrated magazine. But the quality of the pictures taken by the average user will tell the real life story once the phone hits the stores today.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has a camera which is slightly larger in terms of sensor size compared to the predecessor, but it falls down significantly in comparison with the iPhone 7 Plus pictures. If it was the iPhone 6S Plus camera, the Galaxy Note 7 would have offered a close fight. The new f/1.8lens on the iPhone 7 Plus provides some of the stunning pictures seen from a mobile phone camera yet.
Since the Galaxy Note 7 sales has been suspended and units are being recalled from the hands of the customers, interest on the iPhone 7 Plus is likely to be at its maximum. The iPhone 7 Plus is priced from $749 and are going up to $969 for the 256 GB version.
