Verizon has an OTA Update for Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge

Despite all the hype surrounding the new Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, Verizon still has a soft spot for the outgoing Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.

Not so long ago, Samsung released the latest monthly update for Samsung Galaxy S8 – even before the official release of the phone in the U.S. The update came with April’s Android security patch alongside fixes for Bixby remapping issues, among others. As at the time of this writing, Verizon Wireless has joined the party with a similar update that carries this month’s Android security patch, but this time, it’s for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.

Where the smaller Galaxy S7 gets an update with firmware version G930VVRU4BQA4, the high-end S7 Edge will be updated to firmware version G935VVRU4BQA4. Well, the latest Android security patch for the month of April is not the only thing that this new OTA release comes with.

According to Verizon’s change log, the updated Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will get a new version of the Amazon Shopping app once they install this new OTA. This brings the shopping app’s version number to 8.1.1. In addition to this, the OTA update also adds support for the Big Red’s One Talk, where users can be able to connect their office and mobile phones to a single number.

Verizon also notes that this update will provide the latest enhancements for both Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Enterprise customers. The new update also adds more security by installing Samsung Knox to the duo.

As pointed out, Verizon is rolling out the update over the air and as usual with OTA updates, they’ll reach Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge units at different intervals. Don’t panic if it doesn’t come your way as soon as today. In fact, it could take some days before all units get the notification. You can also check for it by going to Settings>About phone>System updates.
