Verizon Starts Rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat to Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge

When Samsung released the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OTA update to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, it wasn’t meant for the carrier-branded variants, rather, this was going out to unlocked models.

Well, after weeks of the update only being available for unlocked models of Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, Android 7.0 Nougat is finally rolling out to Verizon’s variants of the two phones. The Big Red now joins the likes of AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint in availing the Nougat treat for Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users in the country.

It is not the first time that Verizon is coming in the last position as far as the country’s big four carriers’ software updates are concerned. In fact, it has always been this way, with Verizon users being among the last, if not the last, to receive major and minor software updates on their devices.

As already noted, Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge handsets will be updated to the initial or rather original version of Android Nougat. Even though Android 7.1.1 Nougat is already stable while v7.1.2 is available for beta testers using Google devices, Samsung has not yet said a word on when users of these flagships can expect to receive the newest version.

One thing that has probably contributed to the long wait for this OS on Verizon is due to the fact that the carrier dropped out of the Galaxy Beta Program after one month. Back then, those who had already made the switch to the new OS could only keep using the beta version installed or roll back to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

In addition to bringing the new Android 7.0 Nougat to Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, the update also carries the latest monthly security patch, but the carrier doesn’t specify which month this is. However, since other carriers have been rolling it out with February’s Android security patch, it is possible that this is the same version that Verizon users will be getting.

If the update hasn’t hit your Verizon-powered Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge, you can do a manual check via Settings>About phone>System updates. However, be warned that you won’t find the go90 app after this update to Android 7.0 Nougat. Where the S7 will receive software version G930VVRU4BQA2, the S7 Edge will be updated to version G935VVRU4BQA2.
