Vivo Xplay 5 ‘Ultimate Edition’ – world’s first smartphone to have a RAM of 6GB – has been officially unleashed in Beijing, China.
Android has really revolutionized the mobile phone industry. High-pixel displays, excellent camera systems, powerful processors, internal memory storage amongst others are features that are associated with Android and in a way changed the mobile phone ecosystem.
Currently trending on Android ecosystem is the emergence of high-capacity RAM enabled phones. Vivo Xplay 5 has just been officially unleashed with a 6GB RAM, making it the first smartphone on earth running on a high-capacity RAM. Interestingly to note, Xplay 5 is powered with a RAM capacity that is higher than most currently available laptops.
Is it a cheaper Galaxy S7 Edge?
Basing on the specs and price tabled by Vivo about its latest handset, it may appear that the Chinese manufacturer has just launched a cheaper Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. The smartphone comes with specs that are deemed to perform more or less the same as the recently debuted Samsung flagship. With a tag price of $650 and its specs, Vivo Xplay 5 might match S7 Edge in terms of competition in the market.
Xplay 5 packs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset, 6GB RAM and with an internal storage of 128GB. The latest Vivo handset has a dual-edge 5.43-inch QHD display that is of Super AMOLED technology just as in Samsung’s S7 flagships. With a whole metallic body design, the device features USB Type C connection, Hi-Fi stereo speakers, fingerprint scanner and a 3,600 mAh battery enhanced with quick charging technology.
Apparently, these specs are currently on paper. Whether the Xplay 5 will perform better than the Galaxy S7 Edge is still quite unknown given that both handsets have not been released to the market. Galaxy S7 Edge might get some benefit of doubt given its manufacturer’s worldwide known reputation of rolling out high-performance devices.
Ultimate Edition and Flagship edition
Chinese smartphones are somehow staging a stiff competition to the popular big wigs in the smartphone industry worldwide. They come with high specs at relatively cheaper prices. It will be interesting to see how the Vivo Xplay 5 will perform in the market given that it comes in two different models.
The standard model of the Xplay 5 is known as ‘Flagship Edition’ coming with a RAM capacity of 4GB and a Snapdragon 652 chipset at a price of $565. The 6GB RAM model is dubbed ‘Ultimate Edition’. As a latest Android flagship, Vivo Xplay 5 runs on Marshmallow with Vivo’s own FunTouch below it. The phone will bounce in two color variants of Champagne Gold and Rose Gold
Reports have it that the ‘Ultimate Edition’ might officially go on sale starting next week whereas the ‘Flagship Edition’ is currently open for pre-orders.
