WhatsApp vs. WhatsApp Plus – A Tough Choice to Make?

WhatsApp vs WhatsApp Plus

There is no arguing with the fact that WhatsApp is the most used messaging application on the planet right now. The popularity of the application led to Facebook shelling out a massive $19 billion to buy the chat app back in 2014.

Whether you are on Android, iOS, Windows Phone or Windows 10 Mobile, WhatsApp is available as a free to download application. Other than the multiple platforms it supports, this chat app has also been made popular by what characterize it. It is easy to download, install and use. As noted earlier, the app is available as a free download and also using it is free as long as you have access to a Wi-Fi connection.

With the app, millions are able to send text, voice, photo, documents and video files to any other person using the platform at no charge. In addition, the app allows users to make free voice calls to any other account regardless of the platform they are using, whether Android, iOS or Windows.

Interestingly, there is a similar and even much better offering in the shape of WhatsApp Plus. As the name suggests, the app gets extra features, abilities, and functionality as compared to the earlier mentioned app. The app is closely related to the Facebook-owned version, but it offers dozens of tweaks that make it more enjoyable to use than the original app.

If you are coming across the term WhatsApp Plus for the first time, well, it is a high time you know that it has been here since 2012. Even though it is currently not available via the Google Play Store, it was here at some point before being ousted for copyright issues. It got pretty nasty for some users whose WhatsApp account numbers were associated with the clone WhatsApp Plus, with Facebook banning these accounts for periods of between 24 and 72 hours. However, the developer behind the doppelganger came in with a tweak that helped bypass this ban, thus allowing lovers of this app to keep using it as before.

So, why should you ditch WhatsApp in favor of WhatsApp Plus?

For starters, you should know that these two apps use the same phone number. This means that you can easily switch between the two apps but still keep the same conversations. However, you will notice some real differences right from the visual appearance of the two. While WhatsApp spots a green theme, you will find a blue theme all over WhatsApp Plus.

Moving on, you will be able to access more than 700 themes that can be used to customize the appearance of everything on your app. This is something those using the official version can only see happening in dreams. As a result, you cannot change the background, text size, text color, text font and many other things on the original version – things that can be changed on the clone app.

If you use Google Hangouts, you will find some similarities between the Google app and WhatsApp Plus, but this comes when talking of emoticons. The two share several emoticons, however, this characters will only be visible to recipients using the same WhatsApp Plus. You can also hide your status, blue ticks and so on using the clone app, but WhatsApp has slowly begun implementing some of these features. Still, it hasn’t made it possible to send files of up to 50MB like with the case of WhatsApp Plus.

Since WhatsApp Plus is not available for download via the Google Play Store, you will need to get it from third party sites. You will also need to make changes to your Security settings in order to allow the APK’s installation, otherwise, your Android phone will not allow the installation to proceed.
