The Xiaomi Mi box is coming to the U.S., this is according to the Chinese smartphone giant. In a move that will see the company finally break into the U.S. market, however, the OEM needed the help of American tech giant to achieve this.

Xiaomi has been labeled the “Apple of China” thanks to its magnificent smartphone designs that resemble Apple’s iPhone. The company has been selling its products in China and some parts of Asia, but it had yet to break into the most sought-after smartphone market in the world. Well, it isn’t time yet as for now, the company is only planning on using Google’s Android TV.

The Xiaomi Mi box was unveiled at the Google I/O 2016 event and the VP of the company, Hugo Barra, could not hide his excitement with respect to this partnership.

“This is a significant milestone for the company [Xiaomi] and am really excited towards working closely with Google,” he said in reference to what will be the first Android device to be sold by the company on U.S. soil. Apparently, the online store the company has for the U.S. market only sells accessories and nothing else.

Over the recent past, Xiaomi has had rather mixed sales; something that has seen Chinese counterpart Oppo come in and overtake it to the fourth position in global rankings as far as smartphone shipping is concerned. It is even tougher in the home turf as players such as Vivo, OnePlus, and many others are coming in with ground-breaking devices at very attractive prices. As a result, Xiaomi has resolved to the international market in order to boost its sales, something that could possibly work out well for the company, especially if it keeps on with its pricing strategies.

The new Xiaomi Mi box is a square device that measures 10 by 10cm. It has the ability to connect to the internet and as well as stream 4K content. As for the RAM you get 2GB while onboard storage stands at just 8GB, however, you will be glad to know that your video quality will be enhanced with the device’s support for High Dynamic Range technology.

Xiaomi did not release the pricing details of the Mi box.
