Xiaomi is a living proof that online brands can indeed become successful in the hardware industry. The Chinese OEM leverages its less-costly online architecture by giving fans top-notch smartphones at very affordable prices – and the latest to join the party is the Xiaomi Mi Y1.
Lately, India has become a focus market not just for Xiaomi, but also for many other OEMs, including Apple and Google. For instance, Apple is now building iPhones in India while Google has become more aggressive when it comes to selling the Pixels in the Asian market. In only a few years of presence in India, Xiaomi has risen to become one of the leading brands in the country and the result of this is that India will be staging lots of launch events.
The Xiaomi Mi Y1, for instance, was unveiled in India’s New Delhi. As you’d expect with a Xiaomi phone, the Mi Y1 blends perfectly into the budget family with a price tag of just Rs. 8,999, which translates to about $140. For this price, you obviously won’t be getting a Google Pixel 2-like hardware specs combination, but the Mi Y1 doesn’t disappoint at this price tag.
The major focus of the phone is the selfie-centric market, where fans will be getting a whopping 16MP lens, the first Xiaomi phone to come with such a large selfie sensor. The shooter is accompanied by a LED selfie light to enhance the brightness of photos captured in low light conditions.
As for the rest of the specs, the Xiaomi Mi Y1 has a 5.5-inch HD display screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435, 3GB/4GB RAM, 32GB/64GB storage, 13MP rear camera, 3080mAh battery unit and Android Nougat out of the box with MIUI 9 on top. You also get a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
The Xiaomi Mi Y1 isn’t coming to the U.S., but you always have the option to ship it in via third party sellers. So, will you get it? Let us know in your comments below.
