In January, ASUS ZenFone 3 users started receiving the update to Android 7.0 Nougat over the air, however, the Taiwanese company halted the update citing unforeseen issues.
Well, if you were not impressed with the company’s decision, you should be impressed with the latest one. As at the time of this writing, the ASUS ZenFone 3 has resumed receiving the update to Android 7.0 Nougat OTA. Like before, this is happening for two variants of the series with model numbers ZE520KL and ZE552KL.
The update started rolling out today and comes with software version 14.2015.1701.8, which installs Android 7.0 Nougat on your ZenFone 3 handset. Initially, ASUS halted the update to Nougat just 10 days after it had begun, but it appears that the issues have well been taken care of now.
Since it’s an OTA update, it will be rolling out gradually. Not all ASUS ZenFone 3 users will receive the notification by the end of today, but if you happen to, simply tap on the notification and the download process will begin. When done, the device will request to install the update on your phone, something that will cause the device to reboot more than once during the process – don’t panic, it’s just routine. The whole thing should be through in a few minutes, but make sure you don’t turn off the device at some point during the upgrade.
If your ZenFone 3’s battery power is below 50%, better plug it into a power source before proceeding with the upgrade. Since this is a major update, make sure you have at least 1.5GB of free storage space on your ZenFone 3 before proceeding with the download. Also, ensure that you are connected to the internet via Wi-Fi unless you are OK with using cellular data for downloading the new OS.
Other than Android 7.0 Nougat, ASUS ZenFone 3 users will also receive support for FET VoLTE and VoWi-Fi, as well as improved Touch performance. The update also gets rid of Share Link due to incompatibility with Android N as well as a bunch of other redundant app shortcuts from the apps menu, for instance, Splendid, Audio Wizard, Flashlight and System update.
