Audi are aware that the next generation Audi A6 has to be significantly better in order to take on a much improved competition – Mercedes E class and BMW 5 series.

Further, there also maybe some competition in the form of the new and much improved Jaguar XF. The Audi A6 has been one of the best-selling models for the company, but it has recently started showing signs of age. The next generation Audi A6 will come out in 2017 and it will be based heavily on the Audi A8.

Technology, build, and designs are some of the key areas where the Audi A6 will replicate the Audi A8. The Mercedes E class, which hit the showrooms only recently, has been heavily based on the flagship S-class. Even though aspects like exterior and interior design look largely similar to the S class, the model has been extremely well received and it is expected to contribute even more percentage of the company’s sales worldwide. The next generation BMW 5 series is expected to be launched in the middle of 2017.

Due to several facelifts, the BMW 5 series already has a huge leap ahead of Audi and Mercedes in terms of features. BMW may just focus on aspects like reducing weight and getting more power out of its engines.

It has been rumored that the Audi A6 will not look exactly similar to other models in the lineup. Ironically, Audi started the whole concept of a familiar design language across all models. Yet, they seem to be moving from this philosophy just at a time when Mercedes, Jaguar, and BMW are starting to adopt the same. Audi are set to intentionally make the Audi A6 different from the lineup with each new models expected to follow the same trend.

Slim LED headlights, new virtual cockpit to eliminate all the dials in the instrument panel, new multimedia infotainment system are some of the new features expected on the 2017 Audi A6. The vehicle will share its platform with the Audi A8, which is expected to be launched soon, and this will reportedly save around 100 kg. On the technical front, the introduction of the electric turbochargers and 48 V electric system are expected to be the standout aspects. The former recently made its debut in the Audi SQ7. These features are expected to be available even from the base 2.0 diesel models.
