December is just two weeks away and apparently, OnePlus 3 and the new OnePlus 3T are among the many smartphones that are being promised an update to Android 7.0 Nougat before the end of this year.
The OnePlus 3T has just been announced and even though Android 7.0 Nougat is already available, the Chinese tech giant chose to stick with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, similar to the OnePlus 3, which is over 5 months older. The news about the ongoing works on an update to the latest Android OS came during the launch of the new 3T flagship, a phone that adds lots of power and storage to the already successful OnePlus 3.
The company, though, has maintained that it will treat the two phones just as they are – OnePlus 3 variants – only that one has superior specs than the other. As a result, the two will have the same software update schedule and that Android 7.0 Nougat will come to both phones this year.
As usual, the tech company was smart enough to stay off mentioning specific dates. With a promise of making the update available before the end of the year, we still face more than a month of possible dates, but anything could happen as we near the end of this month or in December. As far as the late November date is concerned, those looking to get the beta version can be sure of one. As for the stable version, the wait may go up to mid or late December. For now, it’s anyone’s guess.
Android 7.0 Nougat has been around for close to three months now, but only Google’s own Nexus devices and LG G5 have managed to get OTA updates to this OS. New devices such as LG V20, Google Pixel, HTC Bolt and Huawei Mate 9 have come in based on the new OS. With OnePlus promising the update by the end of 2016, it will still be a huge step in the company’s short software update history, which dates back to 2014.
