Android 7.1 Nougat is now one of the most wanted mobile operating systems, leave alone Android 7.0 Nougat or even the older Android Marshmallow.
The OS, which was first released on the Google Pixel and Pixel XL, has some exclusive features and capabilities that are not found on the initial release. While most of these features have already found their way to devices using version 7.0 of the OS, not everyone is okay with the hassle involved in getting them to work on their Google Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X handsets.
Rather than go through these hassles that may end up rendering your device useless, it is better to sit back and relax as the developers work on a stable version of the OS, which should be released later in December as an OTA update.
When this Android 7.1 Nougat comes around, you will be happy to learn that Google has upped the game when it comes to memory management. Like it happened with the improvements that were added to the Marshmallow update, the new Nougat version takes everything to the next level by allowing the System to be separated from the rest of the entries in the storage manager.
In short, what this means is that when you try checking the amount of memory used up on your phone, there will be separate details of the amount of storage the System is using. Just so as to clear the air, this update doesn’t mean that you will be able to browse through the System partition when inside the storage manager app, instead, any tap on the System option will warn you that the folder contains files that cannot be displayed individually.
Another major upgrade that Android 7.1 Nougat comes with to the Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X is a new set of professional emojis. There are also tweaks on the current emojis as well, alongside a renewed focus on gender equality. In the past, professional emojis that included women only highlighted the traditional roles that the society has placed on them. These include dancing, a queen and so on, but with Android 7.1 Nougat, there are 16 new professional emojis that are targeting women, among them a doctor/health worker, teacher, student/graduate, judge, farmer, technologist, chef/cook, mechanic, office worker, scientist, factory worker, pilot, firefighter and astronaut.
The new professional emojis can be shared in any of the supported skin-color tones and genders, however, Android 7.1 Nougat has the female versions set as default, with the male versions triggered via a pop-up. There are also some variations to the current emojis, where you see an opposite sex emoji for all that existed in as a single sex option, for instance, girls can also run, men can dance and each gender can now take part in all sporting activities.
Google is also aware that the world has so many single parents who would love to share their statuses using emojis. As a result, the new Android 7.1 Nougat also comes with emojis showing single parents with one or two children, both male and female.
