Android 7.1 Nougat OTA to Hit Google Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player in December

Android 7.1 Nougat

A few weeks ago, every Google Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player user was busy asking questions of when the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OTA will be coming to these devices.

Well, the Nougat OTA update finally reached these devices and in fact, they are among the few devices that are currently installed with the Nougat dessert. Now that the Pixel and Pixel XL have been launched with a newer version of Android 7.1 Nougat and a number of features that are exclusive to this OS, every Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and other Nexus users is wondering when this update will start hitting their devices.

Apparently, those using the Google Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X as well as the Google Pixel C tablet are the only ones that will be receiving the new Android 7.1 Nougat before the end of this month. However, this will still not be the stable version, instead, those who are part of the Android Beta Program are the only ones that will get the upgrade. As for the stable version, Google says that will be available later in December.

When the December update comes, it will come as Android 7.1.x Nougat and it will be available for the Nexus 6, Nexus Player, both versions of Nexus 9, the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X as well as the new Pixel and Pixel XL. Those using supported Android One devices will also be part of this major update in December.

In short, Google is saying the month of November will be used for testing purposes as far as Android 7.1 Nougat is concerned and the stable version will follow up later in December. However, there is no specific date as to when this will be happening.

As for those using non-Google devices, the new Android 7.1 Nougat will be coming to their devices “over the months ahead.”
