The Z2 Pro and the Z1 will soon receive the tasty treat of Android Nougat 7.0 version by January 28th of 2017.
Tasty Treat
Chang Chen, the CEO of ZUK, had stated in November that the Z2 was likely to get the Android 7.0 Nougat update very soon. Today, it has been confirmed that Nougat will soon be heading to other devices as well.
The Z2 Pro is to be updated with the new Nougat 7.0 on the 28th of January 2017. The 7.0 version will be released with the company’s, ZUK, own proprietary software the ZUI 2.5, overlaid on it.
Z1 Update
In addition, the Z1 will receive the beta build of Nougat 7.0 some time in the month of January 2017. The Z1 is powered by the Snapdragon, 801 chip.
No other smartphone that comes with this SoC has till now received a stable and official build of the new Nougat 7.0. Therefore, it does not seem likely that it will leave the beta program any time soon. However, it is good to see the Lenovo owned company, ZUK, offering the program to owners of the first ZUK smartphone.
Update for Z2
There was no mention of the Nougat 7.0 version update for the Z2. However, it is known that the program is in the development stage for the Z2 as well. It is hoped that the Z2 devices will receive the Nougat 7.0 version some time early in 2017. It is also possible that owners of Z2 devices might have to wait until February for the new software update.
Slow Firmware Updates
It is nice for consumers to have a wide variety of smartphones for the picking in case of the Android world. However, the firmware update for Android phones is not very frequent. Owners of the ZUK Z1 and the Z2 Pro should be happy that the Nougat 7.0 update for their phones is not too far off. Lenovo, which is the parent company of ZUK, has stated that both these devices will receive the updated 7.0 version of Nougat within the next two months. This will come with a lot of updated and exciting software features.
ZUI Operating System
As in the case of other OEMs, the ZUK devices also come with their own proprietary overlay of the Android software. HTC has Sense and Samsung comes with Samsung Experience, so also ZUK devices come with the ZUI interface. The new version of ZUI 2.5 will be overlaid on the Android Nougat 7.0 version. It will start to trickle out to the users of the Z1 and the Z2 Pro before the end of next month in 2017.
ZUK Edge
However, it is advised that the users control their excitement, as everything does not go like clockwork in case of Android updates. They will have to wait for the OTA, over the air, update to start. However, the development is a welcome one and comes prior to the promise of the ZUK Edge. The latter device will probably be announced very soon and will come with the Android 7.0.
