The Apple iPhone SE was a surprise hit for the Cupertino giant, as it came at a time when nobody expected in the demand for a smartphone in the 4-inch form factor.
The iPhone SE offered every element of the Apple iPhone 6S – apart from the 3D touch – in a size which many of the older generation smartphone users can associate with. Smartphones these days have grown even bigger than a normal hand, but they continue to be overwhelmingly popular. Part of the reason has been the large scale estate offered by phones with 5.5 inch screens.
Even Apple admitted that they did not expect such a demand for the iPhone SE. However, latest rumors claim that the device will not receive the much awaited update. Launched back in March, it was rumored that the iPhone SE would now be offered with the internal specifications mimicking that of the Apple iPhone 7. This would include the new A10 Fusion chip, which has been receiving a lot of positive reviews for its incredible processing power coupled with the efficiency.
The Apple iPhone SE has also been praised for the immense battery life due to the small screen.
One of the reasons behind Apple not being interested in the update is because the company reportedly wants users to switch to the Apple iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus, as the margins are significantly greater. Even though the American tech giant is widely known for its overpriced products, they have always been a huge favorite amongst tech fans. The Apple iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus are amongst the expense of smartphones money can buy today, and they start at$650 while the iPhone SE is priced at just around $400.
Apple has been facing increasing struggles to sell the iPhone even after the launch of the new model. They have also been helped immensely by the absence of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 from the segment. One of the issues currently affecting the company is the huge backlog of iPhone 7 Plus orders. Apple has admitted that it underestimated the demand for the model, which has up until now contributed only around 30% of the iPhone sales. For aspects like the larger 5.5-inch screen and the dual camera setup with portrait mode, it seems that the Apple iPhone 7 Plus is in most demand.
The company’s recent shipment figures reveal that the iPhone sales have fallen once again from around 51 million units to around 45 million units.
